SNL has been on the air since the beginning of time; long before television was even invented. But... is the show good? Depending on who you ask, you'll get drastically different answers. Here's my opinion.
My favorite SNL sketches of the past few years:
"First Impression" ►
"What's That Name?" ►
"Teacher Fell Down" ►
"House Hunters" ►
"A New Kyle" ►
"The House with Chris Pine" ►
"Undercover Office Potty" ►
Also some cool behind the scenes vids:
Creating SNL: Control Room ►
Creating SNL: Hair and Makeup ►
Creating SNL: Photo Department ►

honestly i don't think the problem is the political or the agenda that makes unfunny is the lack of talent. the funniest comedy show on open tv in my country is SO political and it's hilarious even to people that has a different political view of the writes of the show. it can be a little harder to make politics funny but with talent you can totally do it. also comedy with an agenda in my opinion is supposed to make the people who agrees with that agenda laugh and not to make others agree.

Tbh I really only watch weekend update. It’s the only part of the show that I find to be consistently funny. Usually if there’s a really stand out sketch I’ll find it on ISvid

I gotta disagree with you, loathe as I am to do it. Comedy isn’t only about making someone laugh. Comedy for comedy’s sake is incredibly rare, your own show for example, consciously or not, is making a point, and comes with an agenda baked in. You may just be aiming to make people laugh, but what you choose to talk about has an agenda. Biases and agendas are a massive part of human behaviour, and the slight trend toward writing that off or trying to court everyone without potentially annoying someone is an impossibly unrealistic goal, that for certain subjects, can be seriously detrimental. Others won’t agree, but Trump is a terrible person, and it is absolutely understandable that people with platforms to address his horrendous actions (as well as his paper-thin skin) would do so, rather than avoid him altogether out of fear of disagreement. For those most at risk from him, it can be genuinely cathartic to see a beloved show stand up against the most powerful office in the world. Saying it’s not comedy is to say critique can’t be comedy, it has to be one or the other. Comedy shouldn’t be looked at as an end-goal, but as a tool. In that way, SNL are using comedy to critique the follies of politicians, celebrities and events. Whether you find it funny or not is obviously subjective, and personally I hate Baldwin’s Trump, and I think SNL, rather than having too much of an agenda, don’t have as much drive at the moment, and are over-relying on Trump jokes for easy laughs, which is annoying, as they’re often failing at making me laugh or critiquing what actually matters, choosing instead to joke about the dumb way he talks or that his wife doesn’t love him. In short, Trump bad, Baldwin bad, SNL should do better, Comedy is a tool, I am a tool, Drew is funny, don’t pigeon-hole yourself by being scared of ostracising people who want genuinely vile results for marginalised groups. Use your voice to critique things, use comedy to make your voice more entertaining and ultimately, make that money, honey?

Tina and Amy are basically the only names I enjoy from our era of SNL. Sorry guys. I guess it just wasn't my kind of humor, I've always found the names you listed kinda cringey and not really all that amusing to me personally. I don't hate SNL, because I know how many people love them and how much joy their comedy has brought to people, and that doesn't make it "bad comedy" just because I don't like it.

The Weekend Edition part of the show has never been better with the current two castmembers "anchoring". Better than even in the 70s at times. You could just give those two guys an entire show and they'd compete with Samantha Bee. And SNL has made fun of Trump since the 80s. He's been on the show in the past. For them, it's more of a "This guy is insane and we'll show you how insane."

if you were a real fan of SNL you'd know why they make political cold openers to piss Trump off, it's political penance for what they put all democrats through by being responsible for unwittingly giving Hillary's 2008 campaign a torturously long and unneeded second wind with a sketch about the debate moderators being biased towards Obama

Big L 4 dögum síðan
To me comedies in general feel a bit forced, and I think the format is dying - just like clowns, court jesters, cabarets or vaudeville, have died. The timeless kind of comedy is either spontaneous, or part of some organic context - like stand-up, or listening to naturally funny people converse/rant about something that annoys them, and humor will just happen.

Will Ferrell left SNL in 2002, not 2001. Colin Jost is writer since 2005, so I think that he is not problem because SNL have a lot of writers and maybe the level of writting stuff is just lower than used to be. But I agree that Kyle & Beck are great (I think Lesile Jones is overrated and Pete Davidson just should be Weekend Update anchor) and that Alec Baldwin's Trump is not that funny (Darrell Hammond was so much better).

Lol so many people view this show with nostalgia goggles. “SNL hasn’t been funny since blah blah blah.” Yeah, no, the show has always been inevitably hit and miss by design. This video gets it right. From the beginning and up till today, there have always been good sketches and bad sketches.

I actually love SNL now. I've always known the show of course but never really watched it. I saw an occasional 2000's video. Like of course everyone knew The Lonely Island skits. But recently, I've gotten into it. I love Beck Bennett. He was pretty much the reason I've gotten into it. I used to watch his and Kyles ISvid videos literally 10 years ago and saw them on SNL and was like, "They look familiar..." and then one day I saw an old video of theirs and was like OMG! lmao I also ADORE Kate Mckinnon. She deserves everything she is getting right now. Very talented. And I may get murdered for this but the MOST overrated cast member (right now at least) is Kenan. I think he's funny and all but I hate how he just makes a face and people in the audience die laughing and then another member says an actual funny joke and it get silence. So it's not really him that I don't like, it's the audience. lol
